Dear Reader, Dear Fellow Researcher, Dear Colleague,
It is my great honor that you visited my page and hopefully you will decide about its value for your work or simply for your info background. I am researcher and educator for more than 45 years now and still enjoying every minute of my work, the discoveries and the beauty of teaching to give new info to the growing new generation. I am lucky doing my own hobby in all of my life: the research. I am very eager for new knowledge and for discussions to develop something new. Of course, I had many failures and errors in my activity but I did not tolerate them only but tried to learn how to make something better. The errors and problems kept me on the right path of the research and showed me what to do. When my students complain about having serious problems in the work of their research topic I always say: “when you have no problems to solve, you may be sure that you are in the wrong way of activity”.
Despite my research practice and demands for rigorous investigations including the mathematical preciosity, I am completely emotional. My emotions lead me to newer and newer areas of science. The largest break-point when my scientific interest changed drastically was also emotional. My mother died of cancer when she was young. She could not see me graduate. At the time of her suffer I was not able to help, my knowledge was too weak for that. I started my research in surface physics, far from medical applications. I was happy with this field, and was even more happy to be far from medicine as the suffering of people always frightened me. I buried my head in the thinking that I was not able to do anything to help those who suffer in fatal diseases. I was working at a science university at that time having more and more responsibilities in the education and research activity there. I had a research group and later a department for dedicated research of surface physics involving in the problems of catalytic reactions, corrosion, electronics layers, wear-resistant or other special coatings, etc. I had many international connections during my research and started a research cooperation, and later visiting professorship at the Scottish Surface Centre in Glasgow at Strathclyde University. I learned a lot, and “discovered” something new in my loved topic of surface physics: the biological membranes. I was going deeper and deeper into this research and soon discovered that I may do something in oncology with recognizing the membranes of the malignant cells. This was the turning point. In memory of my mother’s suffering I started to change my complete research direction from the non-living surfaces to the living ones and mainly towards cancer-research. I returned to Hungary and established Oncotherm company in 1988 devoted to realizing the research results in practical applications in the therapy of cancer-patients. I left the science university having a new position in a technical one, habilitated in biophysics, abandoned the physical research and in fact I restarted my research life. I was honored for this radical change by my destiny: ten years after the establishment of the company my sister developed cancer. Oncothermia method was ready in Germany and she received the therapy. It was a long time ago but she is in good health still, she has not any evidence of the disease since that.
My family supports me by helping my life, my research and by understanding my permanent dynamic activity. All of them (my wife and my two children) have their PhD in familiar topic as mine and help me solve the actual challenges in my practices. My wife left her position at the Technical University to help me with full forces in the company and my son leads the company group as CEO. My daughter also works in the field of medical support using her PhD from MIT, USA.
